You take the course. Then you meet a person.
Give, Save, Spend is where the questions start. Being paired is where someone further down the road sits down and answers them with you.
How the first two stages actually work
Five things happen, in this order, and only one of them takes any real effort on your part.
-
Step one
You take Give, Save, Spend
The course comes first. You meet the questions about giving, saving, and spending in a classroom, so the conversations later start from somewhere — and so you have held one before you are sitting across from a stranger.
-
Step two
You fill out the student application
About ten minutes. It asks what you’re studying, what you’re heading toward, and what you’d want out of a mentor, so you can be matched thoughtfully rather than at random. If you’re in Give, Save, Spend, this is also your survey for the course.
-
Step three
The program matches you
A mentor from outside the university, chosen against what you wrote, for one semester.
-
Step four
Your mentor gets a short introduction
An email goes to your mentor with your name and a short profile attached, so they know who to expect.
-
Step five
You reach out first, and you schedule
Early in the term you email your mentor and set up the first of the four conversations. They are expecting to hear from you.
A mentor, for a semester
Four hour-long conversations about faith, work, and money with someone who has already lived what you’re about to start living. They are not your professor, they are not grading you, and they have volunteered their time.
The mentoring costs you nothing.
Show up, and lead
- Fill out the student application so you can be matched thoughtfully.
- Once you’re paired, reach out to your mentor first. They’ll be expecting to hear from you.
- Schedule four one-hour conversations across the semester, wherever they fit both your calendars.
- Come ready to lead. Each conversation has guided questions, and it’s your job to bring them.
- By the end of the semester, build a budget based on a starting salary of $60,000.
Apply for a mentor
About ten minutes. You type your name and your email, and the program matches that against its own records — there is no sign-in and nothing to install.
In Give, Save, Spend? This is your survey for the course. There is no second form to fill out.
